THE PUTTING LABORATORY / FILE 27

The end
of torque.

L.A.B. stands for Lie Angle Balance. Every head is balanced so the face stays square through the stroke without you steering it. Not a feel. A measurement.

Method: two identical pendulum strokes, observed from above. One conventional head. One Lie Angle Balanced head. Watch the face.

Every putter fights your hands. Except one.

TARGET LINESPEC A / CONVENTIONAL
FACE DEVIATION-11.0°

Toe-hang head. Torque pulls the face open going back and snaps it closed coming through. The subject compensates with the hands. Sometimes.

TARGET LINESPEC B / L.A.B.
FACE DEVIATION0.0°

Lie Angle Balanced head. Zero torque about the shaft axis. The face has no reason to move, so it does not. No compensation required.

Lie Angle Balance. The face never fights you.

EXP.002THE REMOTE FITTING

There is no quiz on labgolf.com. Fitting is human-analyzed: film roughly 5 seconds of your stroke, submit it, and L.A.B.'s certified fitters email back your ideal putter length and lie angle. Often more precise than in person, because nobody is watching you putt.

Five steps. Zero travel.

  1. STEP 01 / CAMERA

Set the camera level with your hands, roughly knee to thigh height. Not above, not on the ground.

  2. STEP 02 / ALIGNMENT

Find a level surface with a vertical wall edge or door jamb in the background. Line the tip of the putter shaft up with that edge.

  3. STEP 03 / RECORD

Film about 5 seconds of your normal stroke, file no larger than 5MB. Wear golf or tennis shoes.

  4. STEP 04 / MEASURE

Measure the length of your current gamer putter and note it.

  5. STEP 05 / SUBMIT

Send both through the Remote Fitting form. L.A.B.'s certified fitters analyze the stroke and email back your ideal length and lie angle. Free.

One specimen refused classification. It is an OZ.1i. It is also a sandwich. The laboratory has elected to document rather than explain.

OBSERVATION 1
Specimen arrived sealed. Crusts: none detected.
OBSERVATION 2
Face remained square through impact. Filling remained intact.
OBSERVATION 3
Control group reported unexplained hunger on the back nine.
CONCLUSION
Physics unaffected by peanut butter. Collectibility: severe.
EXP.005PEER REVIEW

External observations, reproduced verbatim and cited. The laboratory did not edit the enthusiasm.

For most people? You're going to get 85-90% of the way there with LAB's remote fitting process.
Remote Fitting / Breaking Eighty, LAB HQ fitting writeup
This is the easiest-to-use putter I've ever swung, and it feels like a strong contender to go in my bag in 2026.
DF3i / Plugged In Golf, Matt Saternus
The DF3i absolutely laughs off small mishits.
DF3i / Plugged In Golf, Matt Saternus
I have tried them all. I have had the OZ1i for a year and it is a game changer!
